Jane Sloan LeConte of Shrewsbury, New Jersey, owned this elegant gown, which helped mark her status as a “genteel” woman.

Two of the LeConte children moved to Georgia after the Revolution where they ran Woodmanston plantation and benefitted from the labor of many enslaved people.
